Very revealing interview with Textor in The Athletic about a range of issues.

[Link]

For anyone who doesn't subscribe I will summarise...

- He was invited to buy a majority stake in us but bought less than half (45%) because he also wanted to buy Benfica, hence the name Eagles Holdings.
- Is complimentary of SP whilst also saying that the have very different approaches and that he'd like to spend more. Also that despite owning nearly half the club he only has one of four votes on important issues and is regularly outvoted.
- Says Dougie is terrific but nobody is really listening to him (Textor) on players.
- Says he loves Palace and his kids love Palace but clearly wants more control, when drawn on his long term future "But the likelihood of me being a passive investor for a length of time? If you knew me, you’d know that’s not a long-term strategy."
- Says having an English club is vital to their model so if he leaves us will probably buy another one.
- Reckons the academy being the only Cat 1 in South London is absolutely massive for us and in another 3/4 years reckons it will give us 'a real opportunity to get to the top'.

would be keen to read the whole article if you dont mind copying it in.

But sounds interesting. Why wont Parish let him spend, what does he get outvoted on, and what player reccos if he giving to Dougie?!

1. We don't know it is Parish, Blitzer and Harris don't appear to want to spend and spend what? Is it Textor's money or does he want to put the club further into debt.

2. It's a bit worrying when an owner thinks he knows more about player recruitment, maybe he does or is he just pointing DF to players that would suit his multi club ownership and not necessarily Palace.

All speculation but Textor makes me feel uneasy.

Just my view, but I know John Textor watches a lot of football - and I mean a lot !!

As such he has a more informed opinion on the game than Harris and Blitzer.

I’m not convinced his plans for Eagle Holdings have panned out as he had hoped. Because if they had he would have bought out H and B. And that would jeopardise Steve Parish’s position at the Club.

I’m sure he will exit Palace if he is unable to have more influence .

I hope nobody posts the article. It's copyrighted and straight up unethical. Hard for the Athletic to thrive if their stuff is given away. A summary is fair. Thanks fornit

Unfortunately not even close. I would imagine he meant south london, which is correct.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Fulham, Spurs and West Ham all have cat 1 academies.

Yes, and I guess we are the most recent to make the grade. Also Chelsea's for one, is not located in North London but Cobham. The teams have been faring well. Probably why the board is hoping we can avoid relegation for next few tears with little financial input and push on at the end of the decade

I would imagine that Paddy (with his knowledge of the academy & recently acquired first team duties) would have been given the brief to be that "managerial conduit" for academy youngsters coming up & knocking on the door of the first team.

Read Badger11s post i think it raises the questions that need to be answered, i cant believe SP would stop JT using his own money, unless there are strings attached.
