JC was the last present from Bert Head who played him as a youngster at home to Chelsea. He Scored in front of 45,000. Wow they were the days! Adrian I think we beat Ipswich 4-1. A great game. And Big Malcolm Allison gave Jim his debut. Head had been sacked. I think. Yes, time does play tricks. But Bert Head actually picked the team v Chelsea, his last act as manager and thus ' his final gift. Other than that your facts may be right but the spirit of the time must not be forgotten. Someone told me that they had seen the league attendance figures for the early '70s and Palace were second to Man Utd. Then, when the league drew up a list of teams to be be allowed a preferencial fixture list to prepare for the World cup, Palace were among those teams. Somehow the Glaziers lost their way since then

Yep, 4-1 against Ipswich. I was there in the Old Stand with me old man and a bunch of uncles and cousins up from Cornwall. Best goal I've ever seen at Selhurst. I believe it was 1979, but my memory is slightly different from Adrian B's in one or two areas. Ipswich had a corner and Jimbo rose to head it out to the edge of the box around the half-moon. Gerry Francis controlled it, spun and passed seemingly all in one movement out to the left wing where Mike Flanagan pulled it down, just inside our half, in acres of space. Meanwhile Jimbo had been carried by his own momentum from his headed clearance to the half way line and he just kept going. Credit to Flanagan (who was never my favourite player, but did put in one or two decent efforts during his time with us) he spotted Jimbo powering forward and swept the ball down the middle to the edge of the Ipswich area, where Jim met it on the volley and the whole place went mental. Ah happy days

Yes it was something like that. In my opinion, the best goal I've witnessed at Selhurst. Only big difference in recalls is I think the ball was played out down the right. I could be wrong but great days........................

ITV cameras were there that day.Do you remember all those LWT vans with all the innards hanging out?Pity there was a last minute industrial action and THAT goal survives only in the minds of those who were lucky to be there that day.......
