Can I ask others views on Richards now that we have seen a few games of him?

I personally think he is doing very well defensively, he has a good turn of pace and reads the gane well , however a midfielder he is not . A very good defender even a right back . I have alao noticed he has put on a few pounds since joining Palace . Overall a solid player and good signing and good cover if a defender picks up an injury or a ban or is sold .

Excellent, if everybody was available i would have him and Doucoure, Ozoh next in line, Lerma imho not the player i thought he was, it was Richards that flustered their keeper for our goal

Hard to judge a player who's playing out of position. How would we judge Olise as a midfielder or Ebs as a central defender? I regularly return to the fact that he was voted Player of the Month in January – not a world-class accomplishment but a recognition that he is a solid Premier League defender.

He works hard, marks well 1 v. 1, and his passing is growing sharper. He can be indecisive when caught in space between two opponents, but that's probably due to the newness of being a midfielder. On two occasions he has stated how confusing it is to be in a position where balls regularly go over his head. Nice to know we have him if Guehi, Andersen, or Ward are injured. When Ward returns, I'd still like to see Richards play for most of the 2nd half, as Ward's stamina looks as problematic as his pace.

Struggles on the turn - falls over more than anyone else - and poor in possession compared to established midfielders. Seems to have put on some weight and maybe not as quick as he was last year.

Otherwise, fine. Certainly helping us defensively at set pieces to have another CB on the pitch. He's a stop gap but I can't wait to have Doucoure back.

Good defender, poor midfielder.

I think Richard’s is doing his best in a position that he isn’t naturally suited to.

If you put our best eleven out at the moment it would be a naturally attacking side. Lerma, box to box, Schlupp, Eze, Olise, all attackers, I do wonder if we should go to 5-3-2 in tougher matches and get rid of any holding midfielder. Almost go 4-2-4 in matches like Luton etc. Roy's insistence on a holding midfielder is why Richards is shoe-horned into a position that doesn't suit. I'm not entirely sure Richards would be better than Reidewald in that position either - or Ozoh currently. I think many are questioning Roy currently and there are some valid criticisms. However, we should stay up whoever is in charge, fingers crossed - touch wood etc.

Yes, but yet again it’s a case of square pegs, round holes, a Hodgson specialty. Right backs at left back, central midfielders playing on the wing, wingers playing at centre forward, centre half’s playing at full back, all so he can get the most defensive team onto the pitch possible.

I know that isn’t his true intention, but he simply doesn’t trust playing younger players in their natural position, he’d rather use an older pro out of position. If you look at the squad we have I reckon given the choice he would only use about 14 or 15 of them. It’s time for a change and for me it can’t come quick enough.
