For every loser there is a winner.
It's what it looks like and how it works in 5 years time and beyond that matters.
All this in a world pandemic as well.
Perspective needed!

This is the absolute crux of it. Successful business is all about identifying opportunities within markets where competitors are underperforming.

re translation work, I think we need to have a meeting to discuss who will perform the work, what authority will the programme need to approve the translations and most important, the priority and sequence given to each Union language for translation - absolutely no English.

Sorry, but where's the steering committee? They need their meeting with fancy dinner and lots of wine too.

60% reduction in supply I what I understand. What an absolute triumph of "EUropean (sic) solidarity and cooperation".

You're right of course - the steering committee needs to be elected though - the next window for holding a vote is 2023.

It's the French who are pushing this they have always wanted their language to be the official language of the EU. However this is up to the EU if they want to make their lives harder so be it. If A Polish MEP wants to talk to a Latvian they will probably use English as a default.

French maybe the language of diplomacy but English is the language of business.

Symptomatic of a typical inflexible business that’s stuck in its ways. Businesses likely to be affected by Brexit have had several years to come up with a revised business model that reflects the likely outcome of the negotiations. Those who will fail are those who thought, “let’s just carry on doing the same thing we always have and hope it works in our favour”.

Those who succeed will be the ones who see where the market can reap them benefits.

This quote is from a bitter businessman that has failed to plan for the future and is now trying to blame it on anything other than his own incompetence.

I know loads of small business Directors who are excited about Brexit and have expansion plans based around the collapse of the old guard.

Name three of them and why they’re excited.

Businesses had years’ notice of Brexit but days’ notice of what exactly the trading conditions looked like from 1 Jan. No business can be that flexible almost overnight.

What so you advocate waiting for the full detail before making contingency plans? You just sound like another bitter remainer trying to support people with no foresight.

If you export to the EU how are you meant to plan how to do it without knowing what paperwork is required or how much it will cost?

Waiting for those 3 examples...

French is the language of going on Strike and being belligerent.

Maybe when the EU accepts Turkey, there will be a big push for speaking German. The Mesut Ozil effect.

Algeria has decided to scrap French and install English as its official language.

A valid point which is why it will take a few bumpy months before things calm down and the UK government hasn't helped with it's VAT solution which hopefully they will change.

However what was clear from day 1 because the EU told us so is they would not allow UK business to import cheap goods from outside the EU white label them and re-export to the EU avoiding custom duties.

So even though the supermarkets didn't have the full details until recently it was obvious that understanding where your products come from is a basic requirement and simplifying their distribution which they should have done after the contaminated meat scandal should have been a priority years ago.

These questions aren’t that difficult to answer if you have done your homework properly and you are prepared for a couple of different scenarios.

Perhaps you would like to explain the difference in rules over what was expected to happen and what has happened and whether that might reasonably have been anticipated.

If I thought my business was going to be badly affected I would have been searching for new markets and diversification and not just hoping everything would be ok.

I won’t give you the businesses as that would be unfair on the owners but I’ll give you the sectors. Telecoms, building and hi-tec engineering.

I thought Arabic was the official language?
