To my mind it’s a toss up between a goalkeeper and a goalscorer as to the most important position in the team.
One keeps them out the other puts them in , which after all is the aim of the game.
I take a view that Leicester largely went down last season by persisting for so long with Ward in goal, who patently wasn’t good enough.
The uncertainty that spread across the Leicester defence was palpable.
It would be foolhardy to go in for the rest of the season with Matthews as the reserve keeper.
We need two good keepers at the club who can both play in the first team if required if one or other is unavailable or out of form.
Henderson is in his mid twenties and could have a really good career with Palace if you look longer term and I think if we do get him it could be part of a longer term strategy.
It doesn’t mean we don’t need to strengthen in other positions but , as previously stated, goalkeeper is an absolutely a crucial position where you don’t want to be taking risks.
