The game was live on ITV on a Sunday. I was standing on the Holmesdale, and there was a split second of stunned silence when he scored as I don't think anyone believed he had just scored. One of the best goals I have seen Quote braunstoneagle at 15 Sep 2011 6.57pm

Just a top draw solid dependable fullback, and will forever be remembered as being part of our greatest team ever. Replaced fans favourite Pemberton, and despite his quiet unasuming demeanor on the pitch, quickly won the fans over with consistent and hard working displays. Rarely - if ever! - put a foot wrong. His goal celebration in the 4-3 victory at home to Wimbledon said it all. Scores, and as his team mates mob him in ecstacy, he just continues to trot back as if we'd just conceded a goal kick and he was getting back into position. That 90/91 team just had a wonderful balance in so many ways. Even the temperament was finely tuned: the loud, exuberant, flamboyant characters of the front players: Wright, Bright, Salako, Thomas, Gray; tempered with the quiet, strong, dependable business-like nature of the back line: Martyn, Shaw, Thorn, Young and Humphrey. Even in today's crazy financial imbalance of the Premiership, I still strongly believe that side would've sat just outside the Champions League places.

I agree Bubbs. I also think he was a better defender than pembo but pembo's position wasnt as badly needing replacing as Shaws at left back. Man that shaw was our top own goal scorer ever season!!

If I remember the article in FourFourTwo correctly, John Humphrey is now a PE teacher at a school in Croydon that has supplied a number of our youth team players (Whitgift I think). Whilst not on the club's pay roll, he sort of works for us, helping to develop young players so that they'll fit into our academy. Can anyone who remembers (or has) the article in question go into more detail about some of the players he's responsible for introducing to Palace?

I just know that until September 2010 John Humphrey was teaching PE at Whitgift School which is where Lee Hills and Victor Moses went...
