Not a professional's nick-name but, back in about 74/75, the team I was playing for (a Bath Sunday league outfit) had a coach who made us cycle to matches(up to about 12-15 miles) and after the first such exploit, Terry Mowbray(our 'keeper) said "My nadgers are totally numb, like they've gone to sleep".....known from then on as "Dozy Bollocks".

Going well back in the day (about 1910) George Woodger was called "Lady" due to his twinkle-toed ball skills, according to my late Granddad who saw him playing at the Crystal Palace. And then there was Bert Howe, who was always "Chopper" for obvious reasons as any opposing winger would testify. Was Tony Collins, winger in the late-fifties, also known as Chopper? Seems unlikely, but that's what my failing memory tells me.

Big Mal decided to give all the Palace players official nick names. Apart from Master pieces for Mel Blythe and Stroller for Tony Taylor, I cannot remember the rest. Anyway, it's fans who make up these names, but cam anyone remember any of the others?

Roy Greenwood one of Bert's predecessors was known as "Chopper" and was renowned for heading the ball when it was close to the ground.
