I don’t doubt for a moment that he used integrity when making his decision. What was meant by it is a completely different matter. You want to see it as a confirmation of your own views. I, knowing his lifelong commitment to the idea of European cooperation, don’t.

Well he wouldn't have had much integrity if he said we should all vote to Leave when he didn't believe it and actually wanted us to vote Remain, as you seem to bizarrely believe.

Not if he believed that Remain was going to win and his intervention was intended as a wake up call to the EU to offer better terms to make sure it did.

Many politicians are tactical in what they do. Outcomes are what matter. Not the route taken to achieve them.

So it was all a clever double bluff. It's certainly one he's sticking by.

I think anyone reading your post will see it for the nonsense that it is.

But a drop in a sea of nonsense

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

That piece is chock full of tactics. Of opposition to Labour under Corbyn along with a defence of the referendum as the defining justification to enable Brexit above the sovereignty of Parliament. I refuse to believe he truly believes that.

I can accept that Owen thought the best way to ensure the EU returned to its original objectives was for us to Leave and force a reappraisal. I don’t believe he wants us to stay on our own permanently.

Here they might so determine. Which says nothing at all about how most might.

He's pro Brexit, supports Brexit both during and after the referendum and hasn't said or done anything in the years since to indicate he's changed his position but it's all a clever ruse? Maybe he should try being a bit less clever.

He might have supported Brexit but he is pro-EU at heart. He is not an isolationist.

He must be feeling pretty silly now then.
