As everyone has a free choice on whether they read any comments I can only assume you must be an insomniac if you keep reading and responding to mine. Given the timing of some posts that appear here you have some company.

Your a constant references to gas appliances is a very strange obsession.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

Have to say Stirling I do often take umbrage at the usage of the phrases ‘left wing’ or ‘progressive’ as the group to which I think you are referring are anything but. Many operate under either the delusion or false guise of being left wing when they share more in common with fascists and also ‘progression’ can be made toward authoritarianism too, which is where they seem hellbent on heading.

I also find the claims of ‘conspiracy’ around the Brand commentary rather amusing, it is a very good way to try and demonise or negate anyone looking to expose you for conspiring as the word is so loaded these days. I felt it particularly amusing that one poster on here suggested everybody had been ‘groomed’ by Brand and the irony there! Cooking up conspiracies to suggest someone is promoting… conspiracies!

My personal feeling on Brand is that he is a weirdo who has been empowered to run riot, and almost certainly strayed into grey areas at best, by the media who are now hunting him down. It’s only common sense to question the timing of this and identify its correlation with him criticising the popular narrative which is promulgated by said media. I also think it’s very far from basement conspiracy to suggest Brand would not be the first or last person in history to have his past brought up to negate any threat he may pose through his channel (watched by millions btw which is not insignificant by any stretch of the imagination) and his very well known public persona. It’s been satirised through many a comedy sketch, cartoon and so forth given the obvious existence of such practice.

Brand has been asking some serious questions and made some poignant and potentially destabilising observations from the little I’ve seen. As to the truth in these I’m not well versed on all his suggestions but as ignorant on anyone else as to the veracity of them. I also believe even if not falling into the horrific stereotypes of ‘rape’, it’s entirely plausible to assume he has committed plenty of wrongdoing over time for which he could be in serious hot water. I highly doubt however a reasonable explanation will be given as to ‘why now?’ and again, whilst perhaps not reflective of reality, it does throw up questions separate to that he’s accused of.

If he needs to be locked up with key discarded I wouldn’t lose any sleep but why hadn’t his media accusers done this whilst he was literally in their employment? His guilt, and the possibility of a deliberate attack from the powers that be, are still very much possibilities as far as I’m concerned. If I thought I had something on a rapist I’d go to the police. I’d go to the police immediately. If I wanted to affect public opinion and thought, I’d create a highly emotive TV show.

I am unaware of any poster here suggesting that Brand has groomed anyone.

That suggestion was raised as a possibility by Emily Maitlis when she was recounting the interview she had with him on Newsnight. Which was not all negative criticism but an interesting analysis of a complex character:-

I wonder what's it's called when old 'western' men go to poor disadvantaged countries and come back with significantly younger wives. Remarkable how often that happens.

Mmmmm...

I never found it morally correct. A distinct power imbalance.

For sure it can leave question marks.

I'm sure it can happen naturally....

I'm sure it can happen deliberately...

Remarkable how often it happens...

As I said, I've never been particularly keen on it. However, with the changing attitude towards gender, child birth and relationships amongst modern western women, perhaps a whole different conversation can be had.

I'm reminded of an Irish builder friend of mine, Ginger. He bought a Filipino wife quite some time ago. Maybe mid to late eighties. He wasn't exactly a looker and he worked all the time. He didn't really do any housework etc. Not that unusual for Irish fellas. Anyway, met him out one night maybe a couple of years after getting married. He says, that bloody wife, paid 20 grand for her and all she does is nags me and gives out. I said, "I presume there are no refunds."

You see this a lot in Hong Kong and indeed the rest of Asia, sad old men with significantly younger Asian wives who have to hold their nose as they see it as the only way out of third world poverty.

Particularly cringe worthy when you see the old men sitting around all day and sending the younger wives out to work as the wretched woman finds out the financial reality is not as indicated at the outset.

Many also find out that previous marriages and children get the money they expected when the old man finally croaks.

Having said that, many of the women seem to forget they were ,
or are married when being a bigamist

Sad old world in some ways

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I had a thought this morning, yes I know it's dangerous but still.

So a committee of MPs do not believe that RB should be earning even though these are only allegations and Brand has not even been interviewed by the Police let alone charged let alone convicted.

Here is my thought.

Over the last few years a number of MPs have faced serious criminal allegations ranging from sexual assault to perverting the course of justice.

1. Did these MPs continue to earn their taxpayer's salary when these were just allegations?

2. When charged and awaiting trial did these MPs continue to earn?

3. After being convicted of serious criminal offences did they continue to earn their salary in some cases up to a year later until they were finally kicked out of the HOC.

The answer to all 3 questions is Yes but they have the bloody cheek to try and stop a public figure from earning money in the private sector.

If you are wondering what that smell is it's BS and hypocrisy.
