How would people feel about Defoe.

- tried and tested
- good for one or two seasons then we have to go shopping again.
- While older players are cheaper and younger players expensive, home grown - preferably introduced gradually (20 minutes; 30 minutes; full half; 60/70 minutes; full match) - is cheaper (hopefully) encourages the Academy, and could frighten opponents.
- as players age the wear and tear on their bodies catches up with them (how many games have we had from Remy?)
I trust Sam and Steve to work to fill holes that player absence opens.

I can see Sam going in for Defoe (1 year contract).
Your ideas on the youngsters will not happen.
Picking up points each game is the key.

And then get offered a huge signing on fee by Spurs.
And the possibility of Champions League football and a much higher profile. Not forgetting a much more lucrative bonus scheme, future and everything.
But apart from that....

Our season was over without Wilf. Unless we want another season like this one we'd better keep Wilf or buy similar, and I can't see that happening for under the money we'll get for Wilf, who is tried and tested. Should he leave I don't know who his replacement might be sorry, but he won't be cheap.

Loosing bolasie was such a big impact on our season i feel that the money overshadowed the player we lost and it would be the same as zaha, imo wilf has been our best player for the last 2 years and I genuinely think he's irreplaceable to the team.. they need to pay him what he would get elsewhere and I reckon he'd stay. Champions league is one thing but I think zaha probably knows the best football he will play in his career will be at palace.

If he does go Burke maybe but I'm sure big Sam knows some random winger in a random country we've never really heard of that will pay off.

This.

There is the value of the player, then there is the value to the club. Zaha is a £25-30 Million player but his value to us is nearer £50 Million. Same with Bolasie, I thought that £25 Mill was below his value to us, he was a bigger player to us then we could replace him with. Give me last seasons squad over our squad between Sep-Dec this season any day. Our team of the last 5 seasons was built around Zaha and Bolasie's talent, pace and strength. After a season like this one it would be catastrophic if we don't do everything we can to keep hold of Wilf this summer.

I think we should have signed Demarai gray when he was still at Birmingham. Leicester got an absolute steal on him at 2.5.

What they'd want for him now though would probably be in excess of 10 I would think, which we could easily fund if wilf were sold.

Thinking similarly, then get a winger who can supply a decent ball into the area. Supply Defoe and he will score. So in relation to Wilf improve our goalscoring ability and a lesser winger could be the answer. Very little, if any wingers out there, who are at his level at the moment. Defoe, Wickham, Benteke and a loan like Tammy Abraham would be a good strike force.

I hate to be the party cracker here, but Defoe is overrated.
He's got 14 Premier League goals this season, but 5 of those came from penalties. Are we counting those? I don't. I feel that anybody could have scored those.
Basically, he's got 9 goals and he hardly gives assists (just 2). And he's been on the pitch A LOT!
He should have had many more. Yes, he's not actually surrounded by good providers, but there are plenty more younger and economically more sustainable options for the striker role. Anything you invest in 34 year-old Defoe, you will only recoup in performance revenues, never in re-sale value.

If benteke scored two of the crucial penalties he missed this season we would be 4 points better off. I think defoe would be a great signing

Wilf is going nowhere. So long as we stay up (and we will) SP and the board) will offer him a juicy new contract. He loves it here so will stay.

We ought to go and get Adama Traore from Boro as he could learn loads and improve no end from Wilf and Andros. So long as he is going at a reasonable price!

Defoe could also be a shrewd addition on a short rolling contract. He and Sam like each other could do us a favour as he has a good injury record and knows where the goal is.

Irks me the money Palace have wasted on loan strikers the last 2 years with injuries and form!

No more baseless than the ones who say he's going nowhere! I personally believe he deserves a bigger platform than us now and would be unhappy if he was forced to stay. He's given us 200+ games, and it is the right thing to do for a player of his talent. He deserves medals and trophies which we simply cannot give him.

As for a replacement? I doubt that there is one that comes anywhere near to the talent of Wilf.
