Twas 1999.

Economists don't retire... they can't get the sums right to provide enough income for their retirement BOOM BOOM

Hedge fund managers will try to exploit the turmoil like jackals on a carcase but BofE will prop up the banks and see them off.

Normal service will be resumed in a few days/weeks.

There won't be a recession or major job losses.

If you had followed my advice that I posted up on here in response to another posters false predictions you could have made a killing like I did.

I am an ex IFA and no one listened, preferring to listen to the Economists/Tony Blair/John Major etc who all got it wrong.

Those Betfair odds for Leave winning were asking to be lumped on too.

it was only £500 FFS

You need to pay attention more and not go off half-cocked.

That was just my betting profit.... small change, but a nice touch for little effort.

My investments/pension funds have made 10%+ in just over 2 weeks in Blackrock Gold & General Fund..... that was the "killing" I referred to.

I can assure you that it was a tidy sum with plenty of zero's.

It is people like you, and comments like this, that make me ashamed of my fellow citizens this morning. I predict that in a few months no-one will be admitting to having voted out. Having a referendum always looked a bad idea during a period of economic uncertainty and so it has proved, with disastrous consequences for all of us, but especially our children. Farage is a prat, whose opinions are suitable only for the bar room. Now we need some proper politicians to rescue us from our own stupidity. I am 72 and this is the blackest day of my life. My parents faced a war. This is my worst feeling. There will be an election and providing the Labour party replace Corbyn I will now vote for them. I will never vote for a right wing Conservative party, or worse, UKIP. I want right wing views eradicated from the UK. That now is the target. We have seen a triumph of xenophobia, selfishness, hate and nostalgia over reason and reality. It needs to stop here.

I'd advise caution in respect of putting large sums in company's that invest in the shares of precious metal miners. Precious metals can be a decent hedge when there's uncertainty in the market (like now), but they can just as easily fall like a stone. Such investments should really only make up a small proportion of a balanced portfolio.

Also, I'd recommend Investment Trusts, whose shares are traded on the stock exchange, rather than OEICs (Unit Trusts), where the value of the units can be adversely affected if a large investor (say a pension fund) decides to sell, meaning the trust has to sell stock (whether it's at a good price or not) in order to pay them out (plus I don't like the fees they charge).

In anticipation of a possible Brexit I also took a smallish position in the shares of a precious metals Investment Trust on the 14th June and doubled my holding this morning when the market opened. They were up 15% earlier, but now stand at just under 9% and they could well fall further on Monday.

A much better investment has been shares in a food franchise that I've been buying on dips in the price for the last five years. These are currently up over 250% and were hardly rattled by today's shenanigans. The long-term investor will generally beat the short-term trader over time and you sleep a lot easier at night

With all due respect, there will be in the near future (regardless of which way the EU vote went).
Every bull market comes to an end and this is the second longest in history. It's also been accompanied by the weakest economic recovery from a recession since the 1930's.

Not good signs and tough times ahead for many.

Time to move forward together.
