Speroni is rightly becoming a legend at our place, however a Leeds fan of mine was waxing lyrical to me about Nigel Martyn at work today. He is loved by Leeds fans as much as we love him too!

Anyhow, it got me thinking about a save he pulled off at home to Huddersfield many moons ago, I think from Ronnie Jepson. Basically he was one end of the goal, the ball flew across the six yard box, jepson had to tap it in, only for Nigel to somehow spring the full length if the goal to tip it round the post. It was the only time I have heard Selhurst go silent for a split second as the fans took in what they had seen. Even the Huddersfield fans stood to applaud big Nige!

Anyone else remember 'that' save?! Also who was the best keeper ever for Palace and your favourite save?

As soon as I saw the thread title, I instantly thought of that save from Nige.

Was against Andy Booth, I was sitting in Holmesdale block E at the time and was amazed at how he'd saved it.

Rightly was in both Palace and Leeds' all time teams.

As a kid, Nige was my hero. If Jules commits to the club (doubtful) he will overtake him in my book.

The Best save I have ever seen at selhurst park or anywhere else for that matter has to be credited to John Jackson. Palace had just been promoted to the then 1st division and played Man.City on a Tuesday night. Palace lead 1 - 0 when City got a penalty taken by Francis Lee (sorry really showing my age here!!)who had never missed from the spot. He hit it like a bullet but JJ was equal to it and pushed it round the post. What a great keeper a true Palace legend.

Remember Alex Kolinko at Newcastle when he sprinted from the corner flag to his goal-line to somehow save a shot?

John Salako's save at the death against Wimbledon was pretty special.

I immediately thought of this save as well. I was right behind the goal & I'd given it up as a goal. It was an unbelievable stop.

IMO Martyn is easily the best keeper that I have seen at the Palace over the last 30 years.

I'm not old enough to have seen John Jackson but he would have to be a phenominal keeper to be better than Martyn. Martyn had no weaknesses, he was undoubtably one of the best players to have played for Palace. One of only 4 true Palace legends that I've seen as far as I'm concerned (along with Cannon, Wright and Coppell)

Hear, hear. Stuck his right arm out and knocked it away. At the time, it was considered world class. I was shocked to see him put in goal when Martyn was sent off as he was by no means the tallest player we had but he stood firm.

in the Man Utd game last night the Sky Sports team were talking about Scunny's Joe Murphy as the best goalkeeper in the championship... they don't know what they're talking about when they're out of the Premier League.

Nigel Martyn = hero.

I'll never forget the day that Danny Butterfield scored that hattrick.
And when Ambrose scored that worldy at Old Trafford.

Red and Blue Army! No Matter What.
