If people like something and it's changing, it's legitimate to be concerned about it, but as a liberal I like to think that people should be allowed to do what they want without harming others.

No, people only become concerned when things are changing for the worse, never the better.
I'd like to think I have a fairly liberal view too but immigration has done nothing but add to our domestic problems, period.
I'm all for immigration, but never at the expense of the existing population. That's just ridiculous surely?
Get your own house in order then happily build from there.

PS.......''Boycotting Pizza Express because it uses halal meat, for example, I have no issue with. Having St George's Day as a national holiday to reinforce national identity once a year, fine. Banning burkhas, not on''.

I'd ban them tomorrow if I were in power. I find the notion of making your woman 'cover up' so as to avoid attention from other men borderline criminal.

Liberal? No, not really is it.

Well, yes, it is. Technically, and im speaking from a law abiding UK standpoint, the wearing of a burkha is that womans choice and banning her from doing so is infringing her rights.

My mother-in-law most definitely doesn't run the country.

What a shame.

People have the right to wear anything they like and I have the right to dislike what they wear.

Technically we can't wear just what we want in all situations. The context matters.

JL85...........I've no problem should it be 'the choice' of the lady concerned. How do you stand on a 'hoodie' choosing to wear the hood up but being told to drop it?

Nick.............Nobody is allowed to criticize anyone these days despite living in a, big cough, 'Democracy'?
Maybe today Voltaire would say 'Oh s***, what's gone wrong'?

Or xenophobes

Out of order attacks on people or premises. That said, some of the defaced billboards are quite amusing.
