UKIP are polling between 11 and 15% in national surveys. The fact that they may well 'win' the Euro elections, in terms of being the largest single party, suggests that they will get around 30% of the vote in that election.

Part of that is because of general voter apathy from supporters of the traditional parties and the rest is a protest vote against the EU.

They remain a single issue party, or possibly a 2 issue party (Europe and immigration) but they will never become a significant player at the national level. The most they can aspire to is as a spoiling party, but even then it is unclear whether they will spoil labour or conservative chances at the next election.

Are you in charge of the polling this year Dave?

Of course - and I will be taking a very tough line on hanging chavs this time.

(edit: should read chads)

I think White Horse and Nick totally miss the point, and as ever, move the goal posts.

The UKIP argument is that the UK should be in charge of controlling our borders, with an emphasis of quality, not quantity.

At the moment, having the EU in charge allows the opposite - which you clearly prefer! And it also disregards high quality professionals from places like India or Australia.

Lets compromise on a third option.

How are we not in control of our borders?

We aren't part of Schengen, that's why you have to show your passport when you get off the plane from Europe.

As for how many immigrants we have... it's hardly affected by our EU membership, bearing in mind both Norway and Switzerland both have higher immigration rates despite not being in the EU: [Link]

If you don't agree with the EU then UKIP is the party to vote for.

Westminster cannot control our borders. Look it up.

Many people think they should be the people too - it's kinda the main issue here.

Not necessarily. You can disagree with the EU but find UKIP too nauseating to vote for too.

No it's not.

I want our MEPs to do their job, which is represent our country's interests in Europe. Sadly all they do is complain about the EU but they don't participate in the European discourse. As a result we are rapidly losing influence within the EU.
