Really don't understand all the negativity about this. 24 years old, came through at Spurs so would have learnt from players such as Ledley King who was class, was brilliant when at Swansea and was tipped for England recognition.
Yes he chased the money a bit by going to Cardiff and QPR but people pinning both of those disasters on him are, in my opinion being unfair. Cardiff were never good enough to stay up, Look who was their main man for goals....and QPR were just a sh!tshow of harry Redknapp doing what he does. Spending 80k a week on Ferdinand when he clearly wasnt up to it. In training though Caulker would have got a lot from someone like him. Stick him with a solid Scott Dann let him learn some more then we have a player there. He is strong, has a bit of pace about him, which is something we dont have at the back and has experience at the top level.
Of course he didnt get into the Liverpool/Southampton teams, he went there as a back up because QPR didnt want to pay all of his wages as they are hemorrhaging money at the moment. Those clubs thought he would be good enough should he be needed and look where they finished. For me good signing.

But was not great at Cardiff, and QPR, and was not even in the team at Southampton, and Liverpool.

Plus why would Spurs sell an up and coming potential England CB at a knockdown price if he was so good, no they sold him because they could see he was not as good as first thought.

Good CB's are hard to find, so no club likes to sell them unless they are surplus to requirements, and he was not that at Spurs as they still have not found a genuine replacement for King.

Hell NO.

We would get relegated with him in defence & he (allegedly) has a drink problem.

Why do we keep gifting QPR top dollar for sub-standard players?

Leave well alone Palace !!!

Spurs have done alright with Aldervwield and Vertonghen in there now. When they sold himi, he had just played in the Olympics and needed to play regular first team football to have any hope of making waves and getting into England squad. As many have said, there is no point keeping an unhappy player.
Cardiff wasn't the best move for hiim I admit, but he was guaranteed first team football in the premiership. Yes they were crap but that was not all on him, he did ok can you name me the rest of that Cardiff back 4 and how many of them were kept at a higher level?

QPR was his major f**k up. He clearly went for money and therefore his career has stalled. You are right, good CBs are hard to find but good CBs don't want to be sat on a bench at a top 4 club,t hey want to be playing. He has all the attributes to be a top CB with a bit of love and game time I think he will be.

Wouldn't touch him at the price and wages he is on. Has no form to offer over last 3 seasons. We have taken the best Cardiff had to offer in Mutch and Campbell and come up short in both cases. Pass

When Spurs sold him they were far from a good side, and King was constantly injured, then retired the following season.

I beg to differ, he has poor judgement, and is too inconsistent in the middle, and as you pointed out he's a mercenary only after as much money as he can get and at only £4.5m he is far to expensive to play at U12 level, yes U12.

It is all very well making judgments but how many games have you seen him play? I have seen thirty plus games he has featured in and, obviously, most of those for Cardiff and Q.P.R.

At Cardiff he was average in a poor side. There were a number of basic errors from him that led to them conceding a goal but overall he had a six out of ten season.

Q.P.R was different. They were a poor side and Caulker's regular woeful defending, weak in the challenge and often out of position was one of the primary reasons they were so damn awful.

He may, of course, still yet make the grade but right now he is a long way off. Were Q.P.R to let him go for, say, one million then he is worth a punt and then see if we can knock him in to shape. Six and a half million though - really somebody is having a laugh.

Have a good friend who is a QPR fan. He said he would drive the player over himself if we're prepared to pay that money. To quote him "He's sh1t and on the booze".

Of course, you never know if rumours are true, but there seems a little too much for taking the risk IMO (no smoke without fire, etc).

Now here's Wright, his first chance to see what he can do, and he's through, it's Wright, ohhhh what an impact by the substitute. And it's Ian Wright who's sent the Palace fans into ecstasy!

Yes, he came from Spurs - so did Fryers! No, a big NO - hardly impressed for neither Cardiff nor QPR. And he is English! So what - if he's crap does it make amends he is English?

Did Delaney have a good track record before he came to us? Perhaps he will flourish and forge a strong bond with Dann? And as to his past, you play in poor sides with confidence sapped, it is bound to have an impact on every player. And if I was a good player at QPR I too would hit the booze.

Frankly, I see him as a Mutch # 2. However [and I may be clutching at straws] he could equally be Hangeland's replacement for a season; DD plays out his contact; and Caulker [or Kelly?] steps up to the plate in 2017 if he [either?] meet the grade.

But not for £6.5M!

There is a reason he has been at about 6 prem clubs and been moved on by all of them. If he was good he'd still be at one of those clubs.
