Humanism is a crock of liberal sh*te; f**k it make them actually study philosophy, and equip themselves for the capacity to think for themselves.

Just like philosophy you take from it what makes sense.....There's a fair amount of waffle in Philosophy as well.....Well, humanism is just a branch of philosophy anyway.

But I suspect you know that.

And yes, a well brought up person is encouraged to think for themselves......And they are also encouraged to steer clear of A class drugs.....dig dig.

Freedom of religion is a right in this country. Provided the Education board ensures that the education provided in non-religious subjects is sufficient, then its those peoples right to fill their heads and childrens heads with spurious nonsense like most parents do.

Freedom of religion is a right.

However, the British taxpayer should not be paying for schools to push wish fulfil nonsense stories as truth to children in classes.

Parents can do that in their own time.

Faith schools should be banned and infringement of personal rights as a result of religious doctrine should be illegal. Time for our mostly secular country and it's mostly secular government to clamp down on religious nuttery.

Of course they will be more interested in keeping their ethnic/religious minority voters sweet.

I wouldn't go so far as that, but they should only be available without any state funding as private schools, and still have to match a secular curriculum. I don't have a problem with a school teaching creationism that's what RE is for, I have a problem with it being taught as science.

Why ? They create division and perpetuate the religious organisations that this World could well do without.

Freedom of religion is a right in this country. Provided the Education board ensures that the education provided in non-religious subjects is sufficient, then its those peoples right to fill their heads and childrens heads with spurious nonsense like most parents do.

When it comes to religion I am extremely puritanical.
The right to believe in what ever fairy tale nonsense you want is a right that cannot be removed at this point in time and rightly so. Religion is something else. It is a construct designed to control and divide.

There are many good faith schools....But ultimately I agree.

All schools need to have some sort of ethos.... they should probably pursue humanism and move away from religion.

Humanism is a crock of liberal sh*te; f**k it make them actually study philosophy, and equip themselves for the capacity to think for themselves.

Probably true. But asking people to think for themselves by using philosophy opens a can of philosophical worms in itself. Does anyone really think for themselves anyway ?
I would suggest that in the process of casting off some absurd Victorian values we have also lost some rather more sensible ones. We have several generations of parents who's moral compass has swung far too far in the wrong direction and are a big influence on the next generation. The task is to address the balance in morality and consideration for fellow human beings that has been eroded. Yes, that is also sounding rather like liberal, left bollox but if we are to discourage outdated religious ideologies we must replace it with other forms of guidance. Unfortunately I suspect that a lot of people do not have the wherewithal to think for themselves or be taught to do so as you suggest. That is probably why we still have bonkers religions.

What we need is few more elderly spinster headmistresses dressed in tweeds, like when I was a primary school kid.
