To my mind, tis all scapegoating and scaremongering to deflect away from the real issues affecting us.
Immigrants-a common enemy to focus your ire.

Really Nick? That's what you truly believe after all the points made against immigration on Hol?

You think it's about 'scapegoating and scaremongering'?

Sometimes I feel like giving up debating.

I think the whole immigration thing has been blown up out of proportion. That's not to say that there shouldn't be border controls. But i also think we should take our fair share - which looking at the figures provided earlier, doesn't seem to be happening.

There's been so much underinvestment in and cutting away of our infrastructures in recent times. That's where the issue lies.

Is it possible for you to expand on this please?

Yes. If you ever leave the country, they shouldn't let you back in.

Australia.. is now experiencing the usual problems of mass immigration of people of different race, religion, language and culture.

Nail on head.....I was just too lazy and busy today to go through the counter argument.

Interesting Stirling. Why is it "nail on head" to suggest Australia has not generally been a stunning example of successful migration of people from all over the world, under a policy of multiculturalism,ie 2006 census (top nine foreign born groups other than those born in UK or New Zealand),206,000 born in China,199,000 born in Italy,159,000 Vietnam, 147,000 India,120,000 Philippines,109,000 Greece,106,00 Germany.

Yes,it is indeed most unfortunate that any country should contain amongst its inhabitants such people as those who support "Reclaim" in Australia.See the link.

But you just told us it was a stunning example of a multi-cultural paradise.

Actually Stirling,I visit Japan every year and like doing so.Helps that I'm not averse to them being of a different race, religion and ethnicity to me.

As of 2010,more than 2 million people from elsewhere lived there.

Can't stay there though.

The Japanese protect their nationality.

Like I say, I like and respect that.

I know of two people who have been in Japan for a couple of years at least.
Ones told me that they are constantly told they smell of milk. Seems the japs are lactose intolerent.

For your information, the term 'j*p' is considered to be an ethnic slur by some people:

Whilst I am totally against 'political correctness gone mad', it is advisable not to use it as it may cause offence.

I sympathise with that statement,

I object to the epithet "Brit".

I feel that it implies that we British went around brutalising POW's and colonists in a merciless fashion all in the name of empire.

An outrageous slur.

One of my mates is teaching English there....Been there a year. What are you saying Nick?

You can work in Japan....nothing wrong in that....But to become Japanese you can't keep your dual nationality.

Overall Japan has very little immigration.....This has been a deliberate policy.

That's how they like it according to surveys.....You see they actually had a choice.

Edited by Stirlingsays (19 Aug 2015 3.17am)

Which is not possible if you're British as you will always be issued a British passport if you request one, regardless of what other nationality you've taken and what they've told you to denounce.

And now loads of Brits want to live in multi-cultural Australia...but unlike the old days loads can't go ..because they have points-based immigration rules that no longer are biased towards those from one particular background (Brits). It seems you are opposed to a society which has pretty strong immigration rules but practices multi culturalism overwhelmingly successfully for those who live there.

Edited by legaleagle (18 Aug 2015 10.11pm)

I'm don't believe in multiculturalism. I was forced to live within it growing up and I exactly what I'm talking about.

If others are happy with that lifestyle then I'm happy for them. Though I'm not sure I buy your rosy picture about Australia....But I haven't researched it.

I believe in a points based system but rather than encouraging an acceptance of multiple cultures I'm far more a supporter of integration into a host culture.

The left have lost this argument in Britain....The whole reasons that UKIP started up is because of people with views like yourself Legal.

I've no idea when the word entered common parlance but I associate 'multiculturalism' more with the Blair era than any other period in our history where for example we've accepted numbers of much needed overseas workers.

It's got fcuk all to do with scoring points and integrating as a valuable forgeign asset. That's what Australia are practising and that's why they all get along. I'm confused as to how anyone on the left would cite this as an example of a multicultural utopia while endorsing a less discriminate model for the UK.

I think you're more or less right, that multiculturalism entered the general lexicon with Blairites, but its been in use since the 60s in a less 'driven' manner. Its certainly not a new thing either, just the annoying one.

In theory it doesn't apply just to overseas workers, but to pre-existing and adopted cultures as well - it would be eronous to presume that cultural diversity in the UK is solely along ethnic lines of influence, that tends to suggest that cultural diversity in the UK is a product of migration, which isn't true (Cultural diversity in the UK is diverse within ethnicities, as between them).

On reading up a bit, I think the problem of multiculturalism, is a lack of interculturalist philosophy
