In any case that piece appeared to me to be fairly subjective. Apparently not.

Of which there are dozens, each with an opinion. This one on a fairly minor web based outlet with a YouTube channel. Hardly opinion leading. That it matters more than opinions here, all of them, is undoubtedly true though.

Trump won’t win on a small MAGA base but more on normal Americans who fear the alternative more!

It’s not traditional Republicans who are the threat. They are decent, law abiding and responsible. It’s Trump and the mob that follows his every word and can see no fault in him that is. For sure those decent Republicans who are forced to make a choice between Trump and Biden are most likely to bite their tongue and vote for Trump. Though why anyone should fear Biden more than Trump beats me. Trump scares the pants off me. He is unstable at the best of times. Give him a second go, with nothing to lose because it must be his last, and anything could happen.

Why don't you just compare him to Emmanuel Goldstein.

Not a bad analogy. I might use it. Thanks. Glad you are able to recognise it.

Have you actually read the book? If you have, you clearly didn't understand it!

Yes, but a very long time ago. Possibly before you were born and certainly before 1984. He was the guy leading the group challenging the status quo wasn’t he?

So a disruptive force prepared to use anti democratic means to achieve his objectives. Like Trump.

Taking the figureheads out of the equation, it is Biden and his progressive policies that scare the pants off me!

This country is out of control and that is 100% on Joe, but I’m sure the narrative will blame Trump!

Did he actually exist or was he invented for propaganda purposes?
What are Trump's objectives?

I doubt very much that it was before I was born. In any case you clearly need to read the book again.

He and Big Brother probably didn’t exist at all. They were both figures created by the party, INSOC (English Socialism) to serve as propaganda tools.

Goldstein is used as a hate-figure and scapegoat for any circumstance that INSOC wants blame attached to and is accused of all sorts of absurd crimes (ring a bell?).

The daily ‘Two Minutes Hate’ is always centred on Goldstein where party members hurl abuse at images of him and are only quietened when the images switch to Big Brother – they then start chanting ‘Big Brother’ (you know, a bit like ‘four more years’).

The parallels are uncanny – but perhaps the Demonprats should chant “Senile Grandad’ instead.

How do you know what the USA is like. You only live there, not in Cornwall. Don’t be so insulting to someone who doesn’t have a clue

Democrat run cities.

Funnily enough in this case New York.

I haven’t been in the USA since Trump departed but I was there when he was in the WH. What amazed me then was the way otherwise quite rational people gave him a free pass on everything negative, and there was lots they would admit was negative.

I don’t see any really “progressive” policies from Biden so would be intrigued as to what you think they are. I know there is a more progressive element within the Democratic Party who make a lot of noise but don’t seem to me to carry any weight. Biden from here looks to be a social democrat and nothing more, who quietly doing his best to bring the country back on track after the pandemic. With the USA now recovering faster than almost everywhere it seem he has succeeded. Which is at odds with the common perceptions.

It doesn’t look out of control to me either. Divided for sure with two groups seeing what’s going on in totally different ways, with an unbridgeable gap between them, but still functioning.

It was a long time ago so I’ll take your word for it. Whether real or an invention it does though sound to me that the character has parallels with Trump who has actually done some absurd things. Whether they are crimes awaits the outcome of the various cases. The only time “four more years” has been chanted, that I recall, was directed at Trump during his “rallies”. Events that always remind me of the “Fuehrer” being worshipped at Nuerenberg.
