This fixture is so critical for Saints, they will throw everything at it and have a good squad despite their position.

So I think home win but if we are solid and organised we have the flair players to change that.

We will have to be lucky with the vile VAR.

I think Johnston will start and the most obvious thing is to prepare for JWP.

I think take a player out of the wall and a spare attacker and put them on the goal-line, and ensure a clear line of vision.

It's just a thought, but we have our own JWP, Scott Banks, I would personally have him on the bench as a specialist sub.

Ideas, you never know.

There was a thread on here on that very subject many years ago. It was pointed out that doing that would enable attackers to flood the goal area without being offside. I suggested that the two defenders could stand behind the goal line and, if they wanted, step forward as the kick was taken. Someone replied that that would still enable the attackers to take up positions behind the wall. I suppose if the area surrounded by the net is part of the playing area, that must be correct.

Unbelievable stat

Roy Hodgson has never lost to a team in the relegation zone as Crystal Palace manager

That is insane

“This is a crisis, a large crisis.... in fact if you have a moment, it’s a 12 storey crisis, magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24 hour portage , and an enormous sign on the roof saying “This , is a large crisis” - Edmund Blackadder

A pleasingly calm and collected viewpoint. Would you prefer the sole goal scored by any player in particular?

JWP og

Bah! Now you've gone and done it! I was reasonably optimistic until you said that!

I think they only have one way to play now to stay up and that is score as many goals as possible and attack. I am going for a 2-2 draw .COYP

I don't underestimate Southampton's ability to win, or Palace's ability to lose to a team they're expected to beat, this is the EPL and teams are lot closer than some appreciate - it's fine margins.
Having said that, I think there is a very exciting buzz amongst the players. They are full of confidence and self-belief individually and as a team, and I can't see them letting that go by letting Southampton win. They want to keep this 'great thing' going for as long as possible. Already, BIG clubs (IMHO) are starting to plan procuring our up-and-coming stars. The players would want to keep their values are rising with every stella performance. Eduoard, Mateta, Ayew and Eze have scored goals and they'll be super-keen to make that ihto a consistent thing. All the pressure will be on Southampton, especially at their home ground with more pressure to win, and they need 3 points not 1. I can't see Palace starting the way they did against Leeds (we could have been down 3-0 by half time and that would have been a different story. They won't risk that happening with Southampton.
I'm going for another thrashing. JWP might get a goal, but I'm going to predict a 1 - 3 Palace win.

I wholeheartedly agree and align with everything here asides from the fact I can see us starting ‘slowly’ however probably to a lesser degree. I wouldn’t be surprised if in similar fashion they give it a go for a short period, perhaps even nab a goal, but eventually and inevitably fade.

Us being confident, players looking to build upon that, then looking anxious and more occupied with result than performance etc I really do expect with the caveat of the fine margins etc.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I do not believe that is legal. By purposefully standing behind the goal line the players will have left the field of play and then be re-entering the field of play without the referees permission. Yes I know players leave the field of play to take throw ins and corners and do obviously run out of play chasing balls etc but this is not to gain an advantage after leaving the field of play.

I'd take a draw. It's important not to lose these kind of games. Too much to expect a repeat of last week

i predict a nasty ill-tempered affair on the South Coast.

If Southampton lose , they confirm they are goosed. And they know it. They will be fighting hard to delay the inevitable.

They NEED a win. A draw would be good enough for us.

A very demanding day for any referee. The fans will be loud. We are a better team, on paper. But even ManCity took a while to score the first goal against the Saints.

0-0 , many yellow cards.
