I think some fans had a bit of go at Ron Noades in the Directors' Box during the game.

It was utter rubbish.

the lowest point I have experienced - their fans singing 'team of the 80s' and a big fat bespectacled c*nt next to me in the Arthur chanting 'we want six' - the nearest I have come to houliganism, my fist was clenched and my right bicep was twitching, and I'm sorry if that sounds gay but my intention was only violent.

There was also a four nil? Was it? - in one of our relegation seasons. The only match I ever left early - I brought two mates, big mistake.

I'm still fuming about the FA cup Semi final when we didn't land a glove on a poor performing Chelsea at that time

I recall the demonstration outside the club after the game with supporters in a hissy-fit.

Palace 0, Chelsea 3, 1997/98 season.

We had started the season well, winning at Everton with a goal from exciting debutant Lombardo. The record shows that we actually did OK in the first couple of months of that season but, at least in my memory, the writing seemed to be on the wall from the beginning. That might be because we were awful at home, right from the outset.

Over time, rumours began to spread that the club was a mess behind the scenes. Back in September when we played Chelsea at home, however, all we knew was that the team was distracted, uncommitted, rudderless and gutless.

We were never in the game. They started fast, took control, scored, kept the ball, and then bit by bit realised that they could play at testimonial-tempo, and save their energy for bigger games. They moved up, and then calmly back down through the gears, and we didn't lay a finger on them (and this was back in the days when you could still use a bit of aggression to compensate for lack of skill).

At 0-2 the players were sulking around like bullied schoolboys and my mate said 'Come on, let's go'. I told him I wanted to see the third Chelsea goal before I left. He asked me how I knew there would be a third goal. Well, I said, it seems likely to me that Chelsea, on cruise control as they are, would fancy getting a third to put a suitable gloss on the scoreline and that Palace, piss-weak as they are, would be powerless to prevent it.

Just as I said it, the third goes in.

By the end of that year our home-record showed 12 defeats and only 2 wins . Aside from losing 0-3 to Chelsea we lost by the same score at home to Liverpool, Wimbledon, Coventry, Manchester United and Leicester. At no stage in any of those games did we lay a glove on anyone.

Just think about that for a second - SIX three-nil home defeats in a season... and that's without the 0-2 and 1-3 games, of which there were a few.

Unsurprising, the team finished bottom of the league in a state of f***ing abject shambles.

Thing is, there were plenty of decent players around at the time, plus our best ever manager. Just shows what can happen if the club isn't run right I suppose.

what a terrible season that was, especially our home form.
Should have beaten Villa (late equaliser) and Southampton (late missed penalty) but didn't win a home game until Derby in late March, i think. Also won last game of season, after we were down.

Me and my mates used to leave when we went 3.0 down as that was a common scoreline - think i only missed one goal that season (when we lost 3-1 to Spurs - the game Armstrong should have been sent off in, for a clear handball after he had been booked - he of course scored soon after).

I remember another humbling by Wimbledon, 4-0 at selhurst in the early 90’s, made even worse by the fact that we were the ‘away’ team standing on the holmesdale in the pissing rain.

I didn't see the demo but remember lots of chanting "Noades Out, Noades Out" in the old stand during the game. I think it may have made the back pages of some of the tabloids the following day even though we were a poor Div 2 club at the time.

I didn't go to many games that season but think I went to one we lost 0-1 at home to Barnsley in August. Neil Redfearn scored from thirty yards IIRC. I was there Boxing Day for Zohar's backpass (sorry I think it was meant to be a penalty).

I hope this thread isn't perpetuated by some of our next few games.

Any game that included us versus Shrewsbury during the late 80's and early 90's.

Being 4-0 down at home to Sunderland at half time when they were bottom of the league. How Allardyce kept that team up I still don't know - utterly saved by the January transfers quickly bedding in.

4-0 at home to scunthorpe topped off by Freddie Sears missing a consolation penalty.

3-0 at Millwall.

I'm not far off including the 3-0 defeat at home to Huddersfield on the first day of de Boer's 'reign'. Fosu-Mensah, Dann, Riedewald as a back 3 with Ward and PVA as wing backs looked as uncomfortable as they seemed to feel.
