deals are secured as early as is practicable, and often to close a deal another one has to be suitably progressed first (club won’t let a player go unless they’re confident they can replace him).
Most players will not sign to the middle premiership clubs without first seeing if they can get into the clubs offering the opportunity to play in Europe (with there agents hawking them round) which both delays things and leaves a large uncertainty.
Deals will be done right up to the wire, and there is nothing we can do about, just sit patiently and wait.
Bleating on about why we don’t sign x now, and why y went to our rivals, is like a two year old having a tantrum when they can’t have what they want

Is that such a bad thing? It’s served us well for 10 years and we’re still more than competitive without running into serious financial problems

Well clearly not as good as Brighton and Brentford who are both better with a lower net spend, you can be happy watching us survive in the prem every year but these are both examples of clubs who do it better than us.

He's not wrong tho is he. West ham won a European competition last season. Brighton, villa, Leicester, Southampton, Swansea, Fulham, Southampton, wolves all played in Europe in recent years.

All I want is to watch us play in Europe, there's never been a better chance instead the board will be happy to watch us survive another year.

Add me to the list for carpe diem. To add to your list, in recent seasons Fulham, Brentford and Sheffield United have all finished as high or higher than we have ever achieved despite our much longer run in the division

Recently Brighton have become better at signing players but go back a few years and boy did they buy some stinkers, so when we talk about transfer dealings and net spend it all depends on where you draw the lines.

But in general you are correct both of those clubs seem to have a handle on it although I think we are not too shabby with our recent purchase bar strikers.

Lanzo, did you get exiled abroad? The way you speak about people on here you’d be on your back within 5 minutes at one of the Palace locals. Try having a tad more respect for your fellow fans. Yours is not the only opinion worth listening to.

Obviously we can use examples of clubs who have been worse and parish has done a good job over the last 10 years but just looking at where we are now, 2 strikers, 1 lb, 2 rb that are not good enough, which we had for the whole of last season so its not like we haven't had time to identify where we need to strengthen. Roy clearly doesn't feel the squad is good enough or has as much depth as he'd like. Managers always want more but you can understand where he's comming from. So far the board have shown a lack of ambition this window.

Where do you think the money is coming from to buy these players?

The same place it comes from for every other club, TV, sponsors, match day and merchandise revenue, the 4 owners who are worth a combined 5 billion between them.

I agree, but it makes you wonder where the money has come from to buy a goalkeeper that we could have done without. But I will keep my powder dry and wait to see if we fill any of the other glaring holes in our squad before coming to a final decision on this seasons first window.

Do you understand that the income covers the wages, ground, tax, insurance etc, and Parish and Textor have about 300m between them and Harris and Blitzer have about 8 billion dollars between them, but are not interested in putting more money in, because they want out

So Where's the money come from to offer zaha 200k a week ? Or to sign a 20 mill for a keeper we don't need, how do you know they're not interested, do you have a personal relationship with them ? And if they ain't then that just proves my point, the board have a lack of ambition.
