Southgate has questioned Fodens willingness to play centrally “as he doesn’t play there for his club.’ The Man’s completely useless so god help us if Parish is fool enough to give him the job.

Here's a name to give you the shivers . . . Kevin Muscat. Ange Postecoglou(Spurs manager) has tipped him to be the next Aussie to come to the EPL. He is currently manager in Japan with Yokohama F. Marinos. He is famous for being labelled 'the dirtiest player in the world'. Tho, if we were to have an Aussie as manager, i'd prefer Tony Popovic, doing alright with Melbourne Victory.

When Southgate took temporary charge of the England team after the Big Sam sting following the Iceland fiasco (overseen, of course, by our current manager) England were at a low ebb. Fans had lost interest. Southgate was responsible for giving fans the feel-good factor back through his willingness to give youth a chance and by the performances at major championship finals. UNFORTUNATELY, like many managers who start well with innovative approaches, he has (IMO) fallen into being too comfortable with what he's used in the past. His strengths lie in his man-management (am I allowed to say that or must it be "person- management" in this era of wokeness?) and getting players to work well as a team. The tactical side of his game seems limited (to me at least). One thing he isn't is "useless" because if he is, then as I suggested at the outset, everyone before him (bar Ramsey) must have been even worse. As a club manager? Jury is surely out but I suspect he has learned a thing or two since his days at Middlesbrough.

His win percentage as England boss is right up there. However, he has the pick of the players and an awful lot of those games will be against teams ranked significantly lower. So you cannot really compare like with like in terms of the job. That this is better than most of his forebears is perhaps true but to really understand that you may have to analyse performances against top 15 ranked teams etc. He may be a good man manager - I have no idea. I was a big England fan before and until him. The Zaha thing and his insistence on not changing tactics etc killed it for me. So, for example, how and why is Maguire still getting in there? It cannot be on his performances this season so it can only be on past endeavours. Where does that line get drawn? He brought him on, he scored an own goal, didn’t play particularly well in his two games and Southgate specifically defends him rather than remain silent. May be good man management for Maguire but is it good team, tactical or fan management? And that is why I wouldn’t want him near Palace. He’d only have a small squad to select from and not the pick of the best of England. Man management will only take you so far as will his one track tactics. In my opinion nowhere near good enough. Southgate has possibly the best squad of players since 1966, if not better. The strength in depth gives him the ideal opportunity to create a world beating side. So with this group of players he should be producing a side on the front foot which will scare top teams and not just the also runs. However he does seem to be over cautious with two holding defensive midfielders when we have an abundance of excellent attacking, creative midfield players. If he came to Palace he would carry on in the same vein as Roy, who also uses to holding midfielders, which fits our need of not letting in too many goals as we do not always have the players at our disposal to be more creative. But I still wouldn't like him.
