He has turned into an almost complete CF, i think only Watkins is comparable, 11 goals from only 33 shot, 73% shot accuracy, the highest of any CF in the Premier League, and his hold up play, and effort is first class.

In terms of value for money I think Chris Woods is the only one ahead of him with 12 goals and Woods is older.

Isak and Nunez both cost a lot and I don't think they are that much better also and both play in so called better teams.

I think he's a real bargain.

Mateta always looked like he had a good eye for a goal the issue for me was always the rest of his game. Somewhere just before Christmas something changed, whether it was thanks to Roy or one of the coaches, or something, but he suddenly started to show he could hold the ball up, he could make use of his physical presence, and he could do more than get the odd shot away.

Glasner comes in, works on the squad's fitness, gets us creating more chances and we have a striker that was already improving massively just waiting to take advantage. I think another noticeable sign of his improvement is that Eze and Olise want to pass to him now. In the past they would often leave him out of anything outside the box, now he's doing cheeky backheels, reverse passes, and living his best Palace life. His "arrival" has been timed with my daughter's blossoming interest in Palace so he is her favourite player and she now proudly walks around with a home-made BOOM BOOM bracelet!

He's the antithesis of many modern footballers. He doesn't care about looking cool for the cameras, he wears his heart on his sleeve and is such a loveable guy. I'm so pleased for him and us that he's proving what he is capable of.

He's also learnt the offside rule and seems to have gained a bit of pace since OG has come in and his hold up play is second to none at the moment.

What price now? £40 million? The criticism he got on here and elsewhere...so many so so so wrong. And they knew he was s***. They knew it.

While I'm at it, if Edouard got a run in this team, he took would bang them in, even if his hold up play isn't anywhere near JPMs.

I'm happy to say I got JPM so wrong. The first 4 months of the season he didn't look fit, his ball control was shocking and he didn't really win many headers. He is now a completely different player.

For me the turning point was Man City away where we could barely fill the subs bench. He spent most of the game in his own half but when he did get forward he caused problems. Scoring a goal, winning the penalty and also got scythed down in the first half where their keeper should have seen a straight red.

He must have a chance of making the France squad for the Euro's. Purely because of what he offers from the bench. Hard work and confidence has seen us gain a £40M+ forward that we didn't know we had.

Well done JPM you will surely win POTY after this turnaround.

No doubt Eddie could score but JPM's hold up play means that the opposition have to defend against him which frees up Olise and Eze etc.

I think Eddie is a luxury player I would rather have a JPM II as backup.

Judge Eddie when he gets 10 games on the spin under an attacking manager, hopefully Glasner.

Mateta, purchased for £10 mill, which now looks a very good piece of business.

Not too long ago, in conversation with someone at the club he averred that Mateta would come good and my goodness he has been spot-on with his assessment.

He is 32, available on a free, could be good cover for Mateta for a season, then that would give another year to see if Zach Marsh develops into the player we hope

I will willingly accept that I need to eat some humble pie over Mateta.

When he first came, what I saw was a gangly player who seemed to lack some strength, despite appearances and seemed to have a very poor first touch. The ball often pinging off him in random directions. We had him on loan and I was disappointed when we then bought him off the back of very average performances.

He seems to have blossomed now. Looks stronger, more decisive, more of an all round threat. It may be the years of nurturing that have got him here or is it the recent arrival of Glasner that has unlocked something from him. Either way, well done Jean-Phillipe your hard work has got you here and I really hope this is not just a flash in the pan but a true long term unlocking of your potential.

Had to chuckle at the opening paragraph in the Mail's report on last night's match:

"Even the military horses who caused panic when bolting through the streets of London yesterday would have turned back if confronted by Jean-Philippe Mateta."

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
