As far as I recall it was scumbag Peter Rodrigues who ran 25 yards to take Peter Taylor out off the ball. Mel remains one of my heroes. very sad.

Yeah, it was a bit of a roughhouse at times, that tie.

It could have been any of the Southampton side that day. They were absolutely filthy and set out to kick every Palace player that day.

RIP Mel.

It was Peter Rodrigues that took Taylor out in that semi final

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Sadly my only memory of him on the pitch was when he helped break my heart in 76 at Stamford bridge, his time at palace was just before my time, but sad news, RIP

They were all at it trying to stop Taylor ,I just recall Blyth being one of them .
Remembering that game still hurts and Southampton have been my most hated team ever since .Maybe him just returning to Palace colours was enough to set me off

And we still need a striker

Another sad loss a player from my schoolboy days. One small quirky memory of Mel was a picture that was in the newspaper, the picture caught him in an aerial challenge and you could clearly see he still had his wrist watch on !
