Ive often tried to convince myself that it’s only a game and what difference does it make win lose or draw, to then lie awake at night worrying to being angry at everything to dancing round the front room.
Does strange things to millions of hearts and minds worldwide. Football has to be the biggest common denominator in the world between so many millions if not billions.. From war zones to politics to all areas and situations.
Apprehension, fear, joy, laughter, sadness, ad infinitum.
Loads of us on here and on other club forums either s***ting a brick or partying.
Just thought I’d put that out there.

Once a team gets into your blood, it's like a powerful drug. I smoked for 26 years but managed to give up nearly 30 years ago (in hospital with pneumonia).

Started supporting Palace as a young man over 50 years ago. Despite living in the West Midlands and a 7 hour return journey for home games, I still can't give it up. When I moved up here in 1989, I seriously thought of supporting Villa but I couldn't bring myself to actually go and watch them, so never got the Villa bug.

I have made one concession, though. I have, this calendar year decided not to stay overnight for evening games as I find the two day expedition somewhat tiring as my clock ticks by.

I've never been a good loser despite the vast experience I now have from supporting Palace.

These days I tend to shrug off a defeat reasonably easy. It wasn't always that way.

Saturday being a prime example. As soon as Olise pulled up, I said to my grown up daughter and son that I'd seen enough and they agreed.

An hour later I was at my daughter's place playing with her kids. The extra hour or so I spent with them meant more than a football club does.

The funny thing is that when we are rubbish, as we are at the moment, I feel less stressed watching us play as my expectations are already low, and I can just shrug my shoulders at another defeat. I still moan but it is with an air of resignation.

It's when we are showing a bit of promise and expectations are lifted that I start to get edgy and really ramped up when it goes wrong.

I believe that in general, the expectations of our supporters are not merely low but subterranean.

Exactly the same for me. I sighed at the first Brighton goal on Saturday. As soon as I saw the starting 11, I thought "this is going to be a long afternoon". I wasn't angry about being thrashed by our fiercest rivals and I live in Sussex. It was the same for the Arsenal game. Obviously, I could never support anyone else but what has happened to plucky Palace?

Maybe there does need to be fan protests and disquiet. I feel like I am just accepting that we are fading fast when I should be demanding more of the club and me.

My wife always made fan of me when i was talking about team i support as `we`. She does not get when you say `we won`, `we lost`, or when ppl teases other fans like `you lost`.

As long as you don`t use `you` and `we` you are safe, when you take identity too serious, you suffer (even if team performs well because they can not perform well always even if you are Real Madrid). I practised and last time when she asked how the game was i said `they lost`

If i still struggle, i check my remaining mortgage balance and players` weekly wage and it simply accelerates to say `who cares`

I used to be like that. But my interest in top flight football has been on the wane for years now. The only reason I keep going is it’s a social thing and the only real shared interest I have with my boys. If we go down then so be it. I would love us to win a cup before I pop my clogs. I’ve been saying that since 1974.
