Shipperley sent off

Ten-man Palace reserves overcame Charlton in a 1-0 win at Selhurst Park.

Moroccan trialist Hassan Kachloul's 30-yard free-kick goal just before the break turned out to be the difference between the two sides.

Neil Shipperley, on his comeback from a knee injury, was sent off in the 68th minute but the home side managed to hang on for victory.

Ivan Kaviedes went close to scoring for the Eagles early on with a free-kick, then volley just over.

But it was Charlton who should have scored when against the run of play, Bryan Hughes hit the post from six yards after Palace keeper Lance Cronin parried Lloyd Sam's shot into his path.

Two minutes before half-time, Kachloul struck a cracking free-kick which gave Palace the lead and keeper Stephan Andersen no chance.

The Clowns fought back in the second half, as Talal El Karkouri's sent a free-kick just wide but down the other end, defender Chris Perry nearly put a header past his own keeper.

Shipperley was given his marching orders on 68 minutes for an elbow on El Karkouri. New loan signing Nicola Ventola fired a shot wide in the closing minutes as Charlton looked to take advantage of the extra man but they just couldn't find the target.

Palace: Cronin, Watson, Powell, Togwell, Borrowdale, Andrews (Black 46), Derry, Kachloul (Soares 65), Kaviedes, Shipperley, Freedman (Ventola 46).

Subs not used: Wilkinson, Wilson.
