Crystal Palace defender Claude Davis could miss the rest of the season after being charged by the FA for violent conduct.
Davis allegedly elbowed Cardiff City's Roger Johnson in the neck during Saturday's 2-0 defeat which forced the City defender to be substituted as he struggled to breathe.
Johnson had to spend two night in hospital and Cardiff chairman Peter Risdale asked the FA to investigate.
A statement on the FA's website read: "The charge relates to an incident during Crystal Palace's match with Cardiff City on Saturday 11 April.
"Davis has until 6pm on Thursday 16 April to admit or deny the charge. A Regulatory Commission will hear the charge on Friday 17 April."
Palace boss Neil Warnock said: "The referee told us after the game that he saw it and thought it was inconclusive so I don't know what has changed his mind.
"There are just no comparisons between some of the challenges I've seen that haven't been punished. That's Claude done for the season now."
Johnson added: "It's clear for everyone to see what went on and it's clear in my eyes. I'm disappointed with the player."
