Crystal Palace's Jonny Williams has had his loan with Ipswich Town extended until the end of the season.

The playmaker has been a revelation at Portman Road, setting up a goal against Brighton and scoring against Derby with a long-range effort.

Blues boss Mick McCarthy was worried Palace would take the 20-year-old back to help their fight against relegation once the initial month ended.

But Palace decided to extend his temporary switch in East Anglia as Town vie for the play-offs, however, there is a 24-hour release clause if the Eagles need Williams back.

The Wales international has been enjoying a regular run of games after struggling with injuries at Palace and dropping out of Tony Pulis' plans.

He said: "It’s been a hard season for me, if I’m honest. I felt part of something special and part of a team again.

"If Palace aren’t going to play me in the first team then I’d be happy to stay here and play. It’s good to get out to a great club full of great players and a great manager. I’ve enjoyed my time here so far and hopefully that can continue.

"He’s [Mick McCarthy] been fantastic. I’d only seen him on TV before I came here so I didn’t know how he was going to be, but he’s been first class.

"I think he’s a great manager and he’s been fantastic with me. He’s eased me in and I feel part of something really special."
