Quotes

Roy Hodgson

"We have got everyone fit, that’s good news there apart from the two guys away on international duty. Chamakh’s trained well this week and he will travel.

"I’ve not seen him much. I remember the Liverpool game last season at home, and everyone tells me he plays a great role for the team. I am looking forward to seeing that at some stage.

"It is always nice to go back to your old club, because you have people there who you love and want to see and I am looking forward to seeing a few friends there. I had a good time there, I enjoyed it and the football was terrific.

"I only have good feelings and I am sure Puncheon does as well, his memories are even stronger than mine because he was there through the promotions and established himself into a real talent. Southampton Football Club need a lot of praise for that.

"The Cup is exactly the same as any other game that I enter. Preparation will be flawless, as good as I can make it, tactically we will come up with a game plan.

"Sometimes it works, sometimes the players can see it and produce the performance to see that tactic through. Sometimes they can't, sometimes that is because the manager has got people in the wrong position or they couldn't perform on the day.

"So a combination of the two can some what throw the plan but our preparation for this game is thorough. I know Southampton well of course but it will be a tough game for us."

Julian Speroni

"A lot has changed, it is another important match and it will be tough obviously. They are playing really, really well this season. But that’s why we want to be at this level, we want to play those teams every week. We are looking forward to it. It’s not like a midweek match, it’s a Saturday, so I expect both clubs to have strong teams out.

“Obviously managers tend to make changes for FA Cup matches - I don’t even know if I’ll be playing. Wayne played in the last match at Dover, so I’m not sure what the manager is going to do. I want to play every game – footballers, we’re not happy watching from the side. It’s the manager’s decision and I will respect that.”

Jose Fonte

“It’s always a special occasion to go and face your old team, especially one where you were successful and happy. I was a little bit disappointed [to miss last fixture] but I’m sure I’ll have more opportunities to play them.

“[The FA Cup] is one of our targets. As a team and as a club, we’re ambitious, so we want to win something in our lives and make history. We’re going to try and win the next game, which is against Crystal Palace, and then we’ll see where we go.

"It's not like we're involved in the Champions League or the Europa League, we're not involved in four or five competitions - there are two competitions to fight for. The manager has already proved that he always plays his strongest team, so we will be at full power on Saturday and in every competition we play in. We just want to keep winning. I can tell you that we will fight until the last drop of sweat to keep this position and to keep improving."

Ronald Koeman

"They have a spirit in the team, the confidence and they have had a great start (under Pardew). The first win (against Dover) was normally an easy FA Cup round for them, but the first victory in the Premier League against Tottenham Hotspur gave everybody confidence.

"At the moment they are more difficult to beat than over Christmas on Boxing Day. They have new players and a new manager and that always means some changes in tactics or organisation in the team and I think the manager is more happy than he was before, and that's important."

"I am lucky. I don't have a lot of numbers of players to think about to make changes. The players who wasn't available in the last week are still not available for this weekend. That means we have 17 or 18 players and of that 17 or 18 players we have already five or six Under-21 players. There is no time and no reason to think about making changes and we will put out the strongest team we can."
