Why? If you moved into a new house and the previous occupant hadn't paid their council tax or paid the window cleaner would you? What happened under SJ is completely different, the new club is CPFC2010 and only responsible for anything from then onwards!

In principle, you are right that the present owners are not responsible for the debts of previous owners (that, after all, is the point of the administration) and have no legal reason to pay anyone anything. However, there is a concept called brand value/brand reputation and the OP is right to point out that a gesture of goodwill to local businesses who have been damaged by the club (previous owners or not) would enhance our standing in the community. Whether you think that is a step worth taking is obviously a matter of individual taste but the OP is not wrong to claim there are benefits to be had (even if they are largely ephemeral) by offering some compensation.

Dont mean to piss on anyone's fire of excitement, but its all well and good Palace bidding and maybe even getting the high profile names, but my only concern is i remember the start of the season last year and HULL were getting all these decent signing now look at them. i trust Pardew is a better manager than Bruce, just hope these signing excite the likes of punch and yala and zaha and doesnt ruin our team togetherness. Cabaye is better than anyone that Hull signed, he's the complete midfielder. Totally agree...just a bit curious as this is really the 1st time ever Palace have been so serious. I guess it's a case of not having the resources before now.

A decent piece from Ed Malyon, that basically says we need to view this as a yardstick, and not a trophy. This isn't the crest of the wave before it comes crashing down, but rather a signal of the changing winds. As soon as this gets confirmed, I can't wait for the hoarded of ignorant fans and pundits to sit up and go "what's he gone there for?" No pressure or anything, but we're about to enter into a season that could define us for years and years.

They shouldn't but the way its worked out for them its been hugely financially beneficial for them individually.

From Sky Sports this morning: "CABAYE SET FOR MEDICAL Crystal Palace are closing in on the signing of Yohan Cabaye from PSG, according to Sky sources. We understand the two clubs have agreed a fee for the former Newcastle midfielder of £10m, rising to £13m with add-ons. The France international is expected to undergo a medical in London later today."
