This has nothing to do with 'air quality', its all about more tax on the motorist. How is £12.50 going to improve the air quality? Its not, its just another tax by some t*** who needs to be got rid of pdq. this is nothing to do with party politics its just another tax on the motorist. Forget your data, its tax nothing more nothing less, tax.

BTW, what do you say about the fact that Muslims, Jews, Hindus & Sikhs will NOT have to pay the ULEZ tax if they're going to pray? What about the Christians, Catholics, Baptists, Anglicans etc, why do they have to pay to go & pray?

I think it's the PERFECT example of how this outrage is completely manufactured and how little interest most people have in dealing in facts, so thanks for sharing it.

It's a deterrent.

You can park wherever you want if you're happy to pay the fines for it, but most people are deterred from doing so...

Even if the people against this tax have a ULEZ compliant car they are allowed to try to look after people who haven’t. Isn’t that the fair way that you personally would want?

Cheers Spiderman. We are looking from Lingfield Dormans, down through Ardingly Turners Hill, probably no further south than north side of Haywards Heath. Balcombe is a favourite of mine but decent houses with a large garage (to maintain my car habit) are like a Palace signing, sorry, gold dust at present.

Head a bit further West....... everything you want in Somerset at a price that is very nice! (bit of a journey to see Palace, but every rose has a thorn)

The point is the car in this scenario should be banned from entering. If this is about clean air that should be the priority. What would khant do if people deliberately drove high emission vehicles on purpose. As long as they pay it’s fine I guess. Sort of kills the argument of it not being a tax really.

The ULEZ expansion has nothing to do with air quality. Why would you spend £160m + on a network of cameras that are only there to pick up on a very small minority of cars travelling through the area.

The camera network is of course the pre cursor to a pay per mile scheme for all cars that will undoubtedly be introduced within the next 5-10 years. It won’t matter if you have an electric or hydrogen car, you will eventually be charged to travel everywhere in the new ULEZ area.

If this sounds far fetched then check out the jobs pages for TFL and they are already looking for staff to be involved in designing and implementing such a scheme.

All the other bluster about charging the occasional aged car for a journey through the zone is just a weak cover for what is to come.

We have decided to move further south and get away from it. Hopefully the Sussex countryside won’t be pay per mile before I pop me clogs.

A 'low emission zone' has nothing to do with air quality?

Of course there are going to be more measures to deter individual drivers and encourage people to cycle/use public transport etc. - that's not some shadowy conspiracy, it's just the obvious direction of travel with plenty of other major cities in Europe already having pedestrianised huge areas. Manchester has done the same.

The reliance on cars we have as a society currently is not sustainable - you may as well come to terms with that reality now.

And yet you are overtly and quite abusively anti-welfare. And have had no issue with the countless Tory policies which have made many more people's lives considerably worse. But on this occasion you just want to help people... I don't buy it.

The congestion charge doesn't ban anyone from driving within it, but it creates a deterrent for people to do so. Since it's induction, it's estimated to have achieved a 10% reduction in traffic volumes within it. There are similar congestions zones all over the world.

The concept of a deterrent shouldn't need explaining.

I will when the politicians stop using them and go on public transport, by the way how is Mayor Khan's Range Rover these days.

I most defiantly am not what you say. I’m for fairness and equality but it must be proven to be needed. I have quoted that there is a difference between want and need. My very own parents are in the I deserve it I payed in camp even though they have been net takers for probably 20 years. As well as having a couple of quid around them. Personally it bloody annoys me and I do tell them to stop being selfish. How’s that for my being overtly anti welfare. I would rather they took less to give more to the needy; not wanty!

I know Ardingky and Turners quite well. Balcombe is indeed rather nice, if I can help at all, let me know
