They'll never win any argument based on subjectivity. Accepting referees can make mistakes, or be unsighted, is one thing but VAR should have at least recommended the ref reviewed the incidents.
Their point about the VAR official being a Luton fan is very dubious. How would the FA schedule work if refs, linesmen and officials could only be involved in games which didn't impact the clubs in which they have an interest?

What is sometimes not in the forefront of minds is that the VAR can adjudge the incident to be worthy of a penalty but then has to decide whether it is a "Clear and obvious error" and this of course is a matter of subjectivity and possible controversy.

If Clatternburg is behind all this then he has no respect for his fellow referees.

If it is the club / owner I would suggest that Clattenburg tell the club this is not what he signed on for and he is being made to look foolish.

That was the intention but VAR gets involved in offside decisions which are so ridiculously close that there can't be any clear or obvious error.
Even though we benefited when Bamford was adjudged offside when his arm was over an invisible line it was an absurd decision.
In the Everton game the third penalty appeal was both a clear and an obvious error because the ref indicated Young had played the ball when he hadn't.

Surely an example of the horse having bolted.

The "Clear and obvious' does not apply to offside decisions as they are deemed factual based on the lines that are drawn to determine whether a player is offside or onside.

Apparently Anthony Taylor informed the players that both Young and Hudson-Odoi touched the ball.

So another clear and obvious error. Who watches the watchers?

What about handballs which may or may not be above the mythical
T shirt line?

I can only re-iterate that "Clear and obvious" introduces subjectivity.
Given the proximity of both sets of legs , the position of the ball, and both players lunging towards it, clearly it was deemed that a "Clear and obvious error" had not been committed.

When VAR was introduced I had a couple of concerns, over the way it was to be used and the officials using it.

Whenever the subject of VAR comes up in conversation, I have yet to meet anybody that thinks it's been a genuine improvement to the game.

Instead it's almost become another point of failure.

But rather than rehashing all that, my question is - if it was scrapped would managers, players and fans be more tolerant of referees going forward ?

Illustrious career? The most anti Palace referee in the history of referees. Witness the shenanigans with Ferguson prior to the Cup Final.....he also refereed GLADIATORS, proof enough that he is/was a complete t***!!
