I have no idea what happens further down the line - it will depend who’s in power at the time.

Sure, you could argue those people are a little hard done by.

This has nothing to do with 'air quality', its all about more tax on the motorist. How is £12.50 going to improve the air quality? Its not, its just another tax by some t*** who needs to be got rid of pdq. this is nothing to do with party politics its just another tax on the motorist. Forget your data, its tax nothing more nothing less, tax.

BTW, what do you say about the fact that Muslims, Jews, Hindus & Sikhs will NOT have to pay the ULEZ tax if they're going to pray? What about the Christians, Catholics, Baptists, Anglicans etc, why do they have to pay to go & pray?

Basically I could have a 30 year old 6 litre diesel pumping tons of co2 but if I pay the charge it doesn’t matter. That clearly doesn’t help but I can afford it. Can you square that circle.

A bit of context here that the majority of Londoners support the expansion; [Link]

The number of people who are actually going to be impacted by it (ie. people who have non-compliant cars) is being grossly exaggerated, wilfully, because it's an easy stick to beat Labour with at the moment - this expansion has no effect on the vast, vast majority of the country, or indeed Londoners, but it's been easy enough for our wonderful unbiased media to make it the biggest talking point in politics currently.

Starmer/Labour have made an absolute pigs ear of their positioning on this, as they do with everything at the moment, and the Tory media have done their job in getting everyone unduly outraged about it, despite it not even being a Labour policy and despite it not affecting most people.

You could point to plenty of Tory policies and actions over the last few years which have had a considerably bigger impact on the average person's finances, but haven't caused even half of much outrage - funny that.

My post was having a dig at Steeley’s “I’m alright Jack” post. For someone of his political persuasion, he seems to have dismissed the fact this could adversely affect the worse off.
Bit of whataboutery in your last paragraph? I know you like that expression

TE, I have tried to find this exemption on the TFL website, but I couldn’t see that there was an exemption for religious visits. The article may be spoof but I will remain on alert for any definite evidence of such conditions.
As an aside people driving into London from outside will be impacted if they have a non compliant and I’m not sure if tfl have the data on that.

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

You're right of course, it may well be a spoof item but that presents its own problem in that we live in a time when almost anything sounds credible. I suppose I should add "if you want it to" but nevertheless it remains the case.

Guardian says it is fake

Mind you I hear he is considering giving an exemption to anyone who goes to Friday prayers.

Supported all the lockdowns but actually wanted them to go on further and deeper.

Starmer lies everytime he opens his mouth....presented as left to get elected to the leadership and presents as right to win the general election....zero integrity.

Supported all the Ukraine stuff that's led to a cold war and puts our energy prices in uncertainty for the future.....come our contract being up in Norway what chance have we in getting cheaper bills then.....feck all.

Supports all the same fantasy green targets.

Yeah, Labour.....really good for the normal guy's pocket they are....Not.

Absolute shower the lot of them.

The ULEZ expansion has nothing to do with air quality. Why would you spend £160m + on a network of cameras that are only there to pick up on a very small minority of cars travelling through the area.

The camera network is of course the pre cursor to a pay per mile scheme for all cars that will undoubtedly be introduced within the next 5-10 years. It won’t matter if you have an electric or hydrogen car, you will eventually be charged to travel everywhere in the new ULEZ area.

If this sounds far fetched then check out the jobs pages for TFL and they are already looking for staff to be involved in designing and implementing such a scheme.

All the other bluster about charging the occasional aged car for a journey through the zone is just a weak cover for what is to come.

We have decided to move further south and get away from it. Hopefully the Sussex countryside won’t be pay per mile before I pop me clogs.

Very interesting thank you.
The Sussex countryside is great, albeit large swaths have disappeared under concrete. The roadworks have blighted the area recently but hopefully they will disappear soon. I made the move from Croydon 30 years ago and have not regretted it once. Depending where you are moving to, if you need any information will be glad to help.

I went fortuitously slightly left to Kent. Not the fact it’s not Sussex, just that it came at the right time in the right circumstances. Cheap property at the time I might add, a help with the mortgage from the council, a bloody nice bank manager, a mobile job role and the kids were not at big school.

Cheers Spiderman. We are looking from Lingfield Dormans, down through Ardingly Turners Hill, probably no further south than north side of Haywards Heath. Balcombe is a favourite of mine but decent houses with a large garage (to maintain my car habit) are like a Palace signing, sorry, gold dust at present.

You can have a 40 year old, vehicle drive it around London to your heart's content and pay no charge. Wish I had kept my Capri now. Mind you I wished I had kept it anyway. Looks like I will be using the Old scooters a lot more. Don't you just love the smell of two stroke in the morning.
