Selling is all well and good - if the replacements are as good or better and cheaper. If not, then it isn't worth it. Which is kind of a circular argument. I expect one or two agents to unsettled at least one of our stars in the summer.
Say Guehi, for example, he's been injured, Richards looks good. However, Guehi has been injured - might not go for what he would have done, and try to think of cheap, good central defenders. There are only a couple that fit the bill - and they'd have to want to come here.
Say Eze, possibly could replace with a couple of players but they're going to be high fees, likely high wages. I immediately think of maybe Gibbs White, maybe Gallagher - any cheaper, any better? Maybe Barkley? Perhaps worth a shout but I'd rather Eze.
I'm not sure you can get another Olise. He needs a very high fee. I guess I'd take young, exciting, quick. Perhaps a couple fit the bill.
Doucoure - probably needs to come back before there will be interest. Don't think you could do any better than Wharton to replace him. We're not buying Lavia.
I think Andersen will perhaps get offers - probably quite high ones. If we can get a young English replacement for the same value then perhaps - but it's a risk.
It's not as easy as it all sounds when you delve into it.
I guess to reverse this: think of who's young and already doing well in a high enough league. Then think if they would suit us - or even consider us (for instance no one from Real or Barcelona are on their way to Selhurst), then consider who we could sell to buy them and how much profit we would make. You can then wonder if it's worth it. For instance, I'd take Branthwaite from Everton but would it be worth selling Guehi or Andersen to buy him? It's not an easy decision. Colwill similar. And any of these could be well overpriced and frankly well overrated.

There are players in the championship that are quality that would be suitable to replace some that might go, imo, the Championship is probably the second most competitive league in Europe, possibly with the Bundesliga, the closest player, to Olise, i have watched who is in our price range is Morgan Whittaker, from Plymouth, but i suspect he would cost 20m+, and Jacob Greaves from Hull for CD replacement, Edouard is coming to his last season on his contract, so we try to sell him, not easy, or keep using him as Mateta back up, and let him leave on a free, imo, Johnstone, Olise and Guehi will all leave in the summer, i hope not.

We've supposedly been after Ronnie Edwards for so long a restraining order might be imposed, so possibly he might come in if Guehi goes. Eduoard has failed to live up to expectations so I don't think he'd be hard to replace. It was a miracle we got Olise for what we paid and I can't see that happening again. I guess if he leaves we'll see just how good Dougie and his team are in finding a replacement. You would think they've been planning for it for a while given last summer.

Just based on securing Olise amongst a fair few others, tells me that Dougie and his team are hugely talented in that department. Add in Glasner and his German contacts and who knows what they will pull out the bag next.

A couple of good shouts there. Whittaker and Greaves look good and would likely be lesser fees than who we sell. If we sell. Although, as stated, not entirely sure Olise is replaceable but maybe someone could do a good job without being world class.

The only caveat I would put on that is that Olise, Guehi, Eze and Wharton were already getting rave reviews. Can we keep getting readymade stars for such good fees? Possibly. Munoz is a sign that they can also cast their net into lesser known waters with success.

That's completely negating Dougies ability to persuade them to come to Palace. It's almost guaranteed we are not the only club in for these players.

I always find it odd how Dougies ability to acquire decent players at a good price, always comes with some stipulation that it's a piece of piss to do because they're "ready made" for the premier league when the reality is that no player who hasn't played in the premier league previously, will be a sure thing of being successful. Wharton even states how much of a step up the premier league is.

I think he's done a great job, on a budget and within the boundaries Palace are faced with.

If we can keep hold of them and if they all stay fit we’ve got a really good side now, that’s without accounting for any new signings, but as we all know ‘if’ is the magic word

And that’s the problem - they won’t all be fit all the time and some will leave. Do you spend a £60m sale fee on an equivalentish replacement at £60m, knowing you’ll maintain the best-case standard, or do you spend on two players at £30m knowing you won’t be quite as good but you’ll limit the downside risk if one is injured.

I think Guehi would be the most sensible to sell if we have to. Brilliant player but we have others that can also do a good job. I'd love to have 1 full season with: Olise, Wharton, Eze, Mateta and Doucoure fit. That'd be incredible. Here's to hoping.

Absolutely spot on

I agree with most of this and maybe another season of Eze, Olise & Wharton at the club would be fantastic.
But also Richards needs to be retained as he is showing such good defensive qualities at the moment which is why I wouldn't be too bothered if Guehi was sold to release transfer funds and Edouard went as well as we need to bring in another good striker as well to share the load with Mateta and another defensive wing back as competition for Mitchell.
Also if Eze manages to squeeze back into Southgate's euro squad by the end of this season that would be a fantastic achievement and a great advert for playing at Palace as opposed to being lost in a squad somewhere at a top 6 club!
